Aside from Intel Haswell, which is set to be announced in a couple of weeks, tech and gadget enthusiasts are also excited for Apple’s upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference 2013. But prior to this, there were reports that MacBook Air inventories in authorized retailers are starting to dwindle.

In particular, Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Air with 18 GHz processor and 256 GB solid-state drive is out of stock at Amazon, B&H, MacConnection, and MacMall as of the moment. Meanwhile, J&R is advertising that the said device is only available for purchase at their brick-and-mortar stores. Best Buy, on the other hand, is the only retailer that advertises available inventory of the 13-inch MacBook Air.

MacBook Air Refresh, Anyone?

Last month, KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo noted that Apple has plans to introduce new MacBook Air with Intel’s next-generation processor at WWDC 2013. The thin-and-light notebook is expected to be on sale before the end of June.

Dwindling inventory of Apple devices is usually the first sign that a product refresh is imminent. The upcoming WWDC 2013, set for June 10 – 14, would be the best moment for the Cupertino-based company to introduce newly updated MacBook Airs.

On the other hand, Intel Haswell is expected to be available on the first week of June. The processor is said to consume less power, giving longer battery life on notebooks. It will also feature Intel HD 5000 integrated graphics, which offer a 50-percent improvement from its predecessor.

It was rumored that LG, Sharp and AU Optronics are gearing up to produce displays for Apple’s next-generation iPad Mini. The claims were reported by DigiTimes last Friday. The online publication also indicated that the so-called iPad Mini 2 will be available later this year. This goes in line with Apple CEO Tim Cook’s statement that new products won’t be available until this fall.

AU Optronics: Getting into the Mix

According to DigiTimes’ supply chain sources in Taiwan, LG Display, and Sharp were already selected by Apple as panel suppliers. AU Optronics, on the other hand, is said to be facing issues in terms of producing iPad Mini display panels.

Due to this, it is yet to be known whether AUO will become a major supplier for Apple. However, it was reported that the display manufacturer already submitted iPad Mini panels that are yet to be certified by the Cupertino-based company.

Meanwhile, there were no reports as to whether the next-generation iPad Mini will feature Retina Display.

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Activision’s Call of Duty is one the third-party games that brought in the most sales for Xbox 360. Because of the exclusivity of its downloadable content, most fans would prefer to have the next Call of Duty title on the purported Xbox 720. Moreover, gamers will most likely pick up the platform if Call of Duty: Ghosts made it to the launch of Microsoft’s next-gen console

Fable IV

Following the release of Fable III a couple of years ago, Lionhead Studios remained mum as to what their next game was going to be. Now is the right time for a Fable IV to be released, and it is also possible that this game will be announced at the E3. Aside from that, a Fable title could also push sales for Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox.

Fallout 4

It’s no longer a surprise that there’s a strong bond between Microsoft and Bethesda as of the moment. Now that the team behind Skyrim is moving on to other projects, there’s a possibility of a next Fallout title in the future. Although seeing it at E3 remains to be seen, Bethesda is most likely to give some exclusivity to Microsoft again.

Gears of War 4

With the conclusion of Gears of War 3, it would be difficult to tell whether a sequel is coming or a new generation of Gears of War trilogy with a new protagonist is in the works. Regardless, it’s been a while since the third installment was released, and it would be nice to see another Gears of War title in Xbox 720.

Halo 5

It was previously announced by 343 Industries that a next-generation Halo title is in the pipeline for the so-called Xbox 720. It promises better-quality visuals and other improvements. What makes this release unlikely to happen is the fact that Halo 4 was just released last year. But if Microsoft would want to push sales for their next-gen console, a game like Halo would make a big difference.

According to International Data Corporation, global PC sales declined 14 percent in the first quarter of 2013. Despite that, Apple’s Mac business is considered as the only PC maker left that isn’t losing sales against the iPad. Still, Mac’s sales volume is relatively minimal compared to iPhones, iPads, and iPods.

Macs vs. iOS Devices

It’s a no-brainer why Apple is focusing on mobile devices. That’s because that’s where the money is.

When the iPod was released at the start of 2001, the company reported winter quarter sales of just 659,000 Macs. Due to the success of the iPod, industry watchers speculated that Apple would eventually drop the Mac and just sell iPod products. However, they used Mac technologies to develop an iPod successor.

Then just last week, Apple announced Mac sales of just under 4 million. That is a far cry from 57 million iOS devices sold.

Mac Pro: A Fraction of a Fraction

Due to this, the Mac Pro made such a small percentage of Apple Mac sales, and it hasn’t received significant update since 2010. Its sales in Europe even ceased entirely because existing design no longer meets stringent manufacturing standards in the region.

Apple’s power users are often still seeking more computing power than a notebook could deliver. Instead of beefing up the iMac to accommodate its core users, the company made it thin and stylish last fall.

This left an open place for a future Mac Pro despite a small demographic. Because of this, Apple can choose between broadening the appeal of a desktop computer or provide a high-end workstation.

The Need for a New Mac Pro

Mac Pro provided cutting-edge speed, and even became Apple’s server offering when the Xserve was discontinued. And because of the rapid adoption of iOS devices, the company now has a better opportunity to enter the market of high-end workstations—even if it’s not growing tremendously.

The Cupertino-based company can bring in solution for easy mobile deployments through iOS and high-end workstations in the Mac Pro. What Apple needs is to improve on its deployments tools. Nevertheless, it has a solution that works for both Macs and iOS devices.

Wikimedia Commons

It’s been a long road for home brewers who have lived in states where the hobby has been illegal. But when July 1 comes, that will no longer be of concern.

The last remaining states have finally come to their senses and will now allow their citizens to brew their own beer at home. On May 9, after a five-year battle, Alabama legalized the practice. The last state will be Mississippi, where it will be legal beginning on July 1.

So, why have states been preventing home brewing?

One snag was the good old morality issue. In Alabama, for example, Republican Rep. Arthur Payne stated, “We’re just completely opening up the whole state to alcohol— every family, every home, every block.” Maybe this was the same reason that Utah and Oklahoma didn’t allow home brewing until 2009 and 2010. Honestly, that argument doesn’t seem all that valid. In the past, guys named George Washington and Thomas Jefferson made their own brew. They turned out alright, as did the young country they helped establish.

Of course, there are some valid concerns.

States need to have some restrictions on the amount of beer produced and how home brewers can distribute their product. After-all, we don’t want to have a 21st-century version of moonshiners on our hands. There’s also the question on whether or not home brewers are trying to bypass paying for licenses that commercial brewers have to. But, that’s probably not the case.

James Spencer, the host of a popular podcast about home brewing, stated that “the spirit of home is not to make it to sell,’ but rather, “the spirit of home brewing is to make it to share.”

It’s obvious that home brewing is growing in popularity. Just take a look at the number of public festivals and competitions that honor the hobby. Furthermore, the American Homebrewers Association now has 37,000 members, up from 8,700 in 2005. It’s also been estimated that about a million Americans brew their own beer at least once a year. And there’s also been an increase in the number of home brew supply stores. Because the hobby is continuing to grow, states had no other option but to make it legal. It wouldn’t make sense for respected members of the community to get busted because they were making their own beer.

Besides the possibility of some positive economic impacts, and our individual right to home brew, there’s one reason why us beer lovers should be celebrating the fact that all 50 states will now allow home brewing.

“Most craft brewing came out of home brewing,” Jim Koch, founder of Samuel Adams, said. If you don’t recall, breweries like Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada began as home brewing operations before expanding into well-known and respected businesses.

Who knows. Maybe the next great craft beer will be coming out of a kitchen in Alabama or Mississippi.

What makes the NBA Playoffs so spectacular are the individual highlight reels from the remaining players.

We’re already into the second round with eight teams battling for the NBA Championship, and we’ve witnessed some remarkable plays. But as we get deeper into the playoffs, now is the time when we see clutch players proving their worth and budding superstars beginning to make their marks on the game.

So, let’s take a look at the most impressive players who are still on the court for the 2013 NBA Playoffs.

10. Marco Belinelli

Chicago Bulls/Facebook

Despite missing a star like Derrick Rose, the Bulls have been doing pretty well during the playoffs. That’s in part to players like Marco Belinelli. Belinelli has become one of the team’s leaders who has averaged 17 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game during the last 5 games.

9. Iman Shumpert

New York Knicks/Facebook

The second-year guard for the Knicks is arguably their best defensive player. He’s been holding his own against some of the best in the game and is averaging more than a steal per game throughout New York’s playoff run. During the last couple of games, however, Shumpert has been becoming an offensive weapon as well by averaging more than 12 points a game.

8. Zach Randolph

Memphis Grizzlies/Facebook

Z-Bo helped eliminate Chris Paul and The Clippers in the final four games of the first round by averaging 24.7 PPG & 9.0 RPG. If there were any doubts about Randolph returning to his 2011 playoff form, he should have proven otherwise by now.

7. Carmelo Anthony

New York Knicks/Facebook

Melo may not be putting up the most impressive of numbers, but he’s the most important piece to the Knicks offense. During this year’s playoffs, he’s averaging 39.6 MPG, 28.3 PPG, 6.3 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.2 SPG.

6. Nate Robinson

Chicago Bulls/Facebook

Nate Robinson is another Bull who has been stepping it up. Chicago needed Robinson to help them make it this far. And, he’s doing so fittingly. Just check out Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against the Nets, where he put up 34 points, 4 assists and 2 steals.

5. Paul George

Indiana Pacers/Facebook

The 23-year-old has been helping The Pacers in shutting down playmakers like Carmelo Anthony. There’s a reason why Indiana has the league’s stingiest defense, and that’s because of players like Paul George.

4. Tony Parker

Wikipedia

No surprise here. Tony Parker has shown us why he’s one of the best on the court during The Spurs tough battle with The Warriors. During the first three games, Parker has average over 26 PPG.

3. LeBron James

Bron Bron has proved that he’s still hungry for a second NBA Title. The King has been shooting 55% in the playoffs, as well as averaging 23.7 PPG. The reigning MVP has shown us once again why he’s the best in the game.

2. Stephen Curry

Wikipedia

Stephen Curry has proven to be one of the most clutch players during this season’s playoffs. He lead The Warriors in an upset series victory over Denver and has the following stats: 25 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 8.3 APG, 1.8 SPG. Regardless how the playoffs go down, the future looks bright for Curry and The Warriors.

1. Kevin Durant

Wikipedia

Without Russell Westbrook, Durantula has been on a tear. In fact, without Westbrook, Durant has been averaging 34 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 6.1 APG, and 1.6 SPG. The NBA’s third-leading postseason scorer is trying to keep The Thunder rolling, even if things aren’t looking that way. Regardless if OKC advances, Durant is currently in beast mode.

Todd M. Miller, 23, of Columbus, Ohio tried to avoid getting penalized for a cyber crime by smashing his computers and making sure his hard drives were destroyed.

Miller was sentenced last Thursday for a year of house arrest for obstructing federal investigation and stymieing FBI’s checking over the Sony PlayStation Network hack. Aside from this, he was also sentenced to a three-year probation, and was ordered to get his high-school equivalence certificate.

Miller was a member of the KCUF hacking group. It was founded in 2008 and is said to be responsible for attacks on Sony’s servers. The Sony PlayStation Network hack caused the network to go offline in April 2011.

It was soon revealed that the breach enabled the hackers to access personal user data like credit card information. Because of this, the company was fined over $300,000 by the Information Commissioner’s Office of the United Kingdom for breaching their Data Protection Act.
